Help ID my catfish, never seen one the same!

I brought this from a local fish shop and I'd never seen one before, bought him on a whim because he was exciting and had super long whiskers about the length of a biro pen each.
He has a kind of stripped tail and a silver body reminds me of a pictus but has no markings n his body with a white belly.

Cheers Ab x

Welcome to the Planet, mate! I cannot make out much from that pic. I thought maybe a synodontis but super long barbels don't fit (they would fit pims, like the pictus you mentioned), although IDK what a biro pen is.

Judging from the pattern of the caudal fin, plus what little I can see, it looks like an aberrant Pimelodus pictus that lacks spots on the body (I recall seeing one individual like that in a tank full of regular P. pictus at a transshipper's).

I'd love to see a pic in the light!

Pictus have been bred in a washed-out gold form so it could well be as Silurus suggests - I'd struggle to think of anything else it could be from that pic & description

catch it and put it in a bucket or specimen container and then take a picture of it... or use a camera with a good flash

Agree with Pimelodus pictus.
