I promised to help a friend of mine choosing fish for a 250 L tank. He insists that he wants some kind of labyrinths (probably Macropodus opercularis or maybe some Trichogaster species). This of course means that there won't be that much current in the tank.

He also wants some catfish in the tank. I know next to nothing about Asian catfish (did have some Hara jerdoni years ago). Can anyone suggest one or more species which would do well in a tank like that ? Preferably species which are regularly available on the market.

He can go with an Asian blackwater setup and get a few Trichogaster leerii, along with a school of Mystus bimaculatus.
Otherwise, a whitewater setup with T. trichopterus or T. pectoralis and a group of M. castaneus would also work.

If he's really into labyrinths, he might even be able to add some Belontia hasseltii into the blackwater setup, or Betta pugnax into the whitewater setup.
