Hey everyone I just wanted to know some opinions on this. I have 13 zebras in a 135g 6' tank and I have eheim canister filter and aqua clear 110 on it for filteration but have a power head for extra flow it's a fluval sea 1300 gph. I noticed at night the food flies around so I started shutting off the fluval sea at night till the morning but I don't want it to mess up breeding possibilities, will this effect anything? Should I just keep the power head on and will the food just end up settling somewhere? Help need opinions please!! Thanks!

I don't switch off powerheads (or anything else) during feeding, but I do know some people do. I don't think there is "one answer that suits everyone", it comes down to your setup and what you feed, etc.

Food may settle somewhere but equally it may get sucked up into the filter.

I turn off filters in my tanks if im feeding anything that may get sucked up into internal/external filters. They go back on after 20 minutes.

Is there a reason you feed at night? Fish can learn to associate the filters being turned off with feeding time & can be encouraged to feed during the day

What food are you using? What about using a "gel" (Repashy)?

Thanks everyone for the replies. I am using earthworm sticks but what really flies around is the brine shrimp and mysis. I never used the gel before do they enjoy it?

Quite a few do enjoy gels.
Is adjusting the outflow a bit an option?

I leave powerheads on, but I've had to play around with where to feed the the tank to prevent food from getting from getting stuck on inlets or on sponge filters. Even though the food flies around when I feed in these places, it eventually settles somewhere on the substrate. So I have one or two preferred feeding spots in each high-flow tank where I'll feed every day.

Also, I feed frozen food using a kitchen blaster, so I can stick the end of the baster further into the water to shoot the food in a specific direction. I think this helps get food to the bottom (compared to pouring it in from a cup or something).

I'm currently turning off the powerheads off for a few hours at night and plug them in before bed. I tried leaving them on but it was like a snow storm with the frozen brine shrimp and I think most was getting sucked up in filter.

Does anyone think this will effect them with breeding? I'm currently trying to breed the group and I'm hoping for success lol. Previous owner spawned this group 2 times with out trying too.

I tried sinking earthworm sticks(they eat a little bit of it, I see some left in tank in the morning), hikari carnivor sinking( which they do not even touch), sera sinking algae mix wafers (they don't touch) so all they are willing to accept is frozen mysis and brine with spirulina. Any suggestions? Should I keep trying the other foods?
