Canned food that you're using!

Hi all,
I was thinking if everyone can list the types/names of canned food for plecos and if possible give the comments (the goods and bad) on it!
Let me start off first!
1. Sera Wels-Chips
2. King British for catfish
3. Hikari Algae Wafer
4. Hikari Sinking Wafer
5. Hikari Carnivore Food (Found this to be extremely popular with my plecos)
6. Sera Spirulina 20% (dissolves easily)

French cut green beans *grin*
I actually open a can of them (the kind for people), dump them into a baggie and press them flat and freeze them. The plecos and pleco fry go nuts for them. Even my Synodontis petricola seem to like them. I started it back when I kept mbuna, but the catfish really enjoy them, and I've actually seen my rays picking at them. Just for a change of pace

Whatever prepared food you use be sure to check the ingredients closely. You will be very surprised that many brands of "algae wafers" on the market have almost no algae in them. That said, I like Barbie, prefer fresh foods and the bulk of most of my loricariid's diet is cucumber, zucchini, broccoli stems, green beans, and other veggies. I save the algae wafers for times when I am in a hurry or short on veggies.

Shane, is it better then to feed them a variety of vegetables as compared to using algae wafers in the long run? I heard that prepared food are good in a sense that they are made up from several food source. Some people also told me that plecos dont eat vegetables in the wild. I like to hear different views instead. What you think?

Hi!
Well they would eat some plants detritus, seed, I would also say probably some fruits, but this last one would have to be verified ( still I would not try that in a close environement like a tank)
COncerning the algae, seriously in some region I was I was not able to spot anything that was looking like algae, maybe micro organism algae possibly but only in very restricted zone I would say.
How would you have algae to grow in the Rio Amazona, which is not really clear and would let light go trough, same for the Rio Negro , plus with the very acid PH, which is not good for algae.
I use 20% Spirulina tabs from Sera
Planctons tabs + spirulina Sera
Granumix vital from Sera
DuplaRin from Dupla
