After testing my water yesterday I found it was much harder than I need for my fish and was wondering what is the easiest way to lower it? Thanks.

What's it at and where are you trying to get it to?

Mix in up to 50% RO or RO/DI water. Rhis may also lower thepH depending on your other parameters.

what are you trying to accomplish? are the fish showing signs of stress that you feel you need to modify the water? if the fish appear happy and healthy I wouldn't mess with it unless its for breeding and even then it might not be necessary.

Assuning the tank does not contain sources of calcium or magnesium, the easiest way is to replace hard water by softer water.

How to get this softe water is sometimes difficult. An RO system will be the best solution.

Still, it is quite a task to prepare a batch of water each and every week. Remember, we are talking of, most likely, hundreds of liters a batch. I graduated in Chemistry - so I do know how to do it, and I find it a lot better to keep fishes which thrive in the tapwater I happen to have.

Mollies prefer hard water. Are you sure there isn't something else wrong?

Perhaps they miss salt in the water. Most mollies come from brackish origins.

As the water in their countries of origen is hard, very hard or harder, and the inhabite the coastal areas, they just can't be needing soft water.

Anything can be wring with your water, but it can not be too hard for mollies. Impossible
