Looking at the amount of technical detail that go into the identification of a species, I wonder if all our C and L numbers are in the process of being described and named. My guess is that there are so many undescribed species that we should plan on using the numbers instead of genus and species names for a long time to come due to the time and people needed.

Only a small number of L Numbers are in the process of being described and "L Numbers" only represent a tiny fraction of undescribed loricariids. L Numbers are almost exclusively issued to colorful members of the Ancistrinae tribe of the subfamily Hypostominae. Loricariinae, Hypoptopominae (like the species described above), and brownish Hypostominae almost never receive L Numbers.
