Central California gets to hear Ingo Seidel, Nathan Lujan and Go Wild Peru's Michael Barber

To all my Central/Northern California friends (and folks in surrounding areas),
It's not often that we get the pleasure of hearing European pleco experts speak, so when we do, it's a treat. On Saturday, 7 May, 2016 (yes this is a date change from my original post), the Sacramento Aquarium Society has the privilege of hosting Ingo Seidel for our monthly meeting. Additional information can be found at the society's website,
http://sacramentoaquariumsociety.info/m ... tings.html.
Cheers, Eric

New speakers have been added to our upcoming schedule, with more catfish opportunities:
In addition to Ingo Seidel's upcoming visit in May, we're hosting two more speakers who should appeal to every cat-a-fish-ionado. (clever pun there, eh?

)
- On 2 April, Dr. Nathan Lujan will speak about Loricariids in Brazil, and
- On 3 September, Michael Barber (Co-owner of Go Wild Peru) will be our guest speaker.
Plus, our semiannual Mega-auction will be held next month on 5 March.
For more information, visit

There certainly are several PlanetCatfish members in the greater San Francisco, Sacramento, Central Valley region, so I hope to see some of you there!
Cheers, Eric

At the last meeting, Nathan brought one of his phylogeny posters and donated it for our club auction. I bid/paid WAY too much to win that poster, but the auction is for a good cause and the poster is awesome... so I was happy to buy it! {I'm also paying $$$ more to get it framed, so I must like it a lot! Usually people on this website are embarrassed to share how much they paid for some fish... I'm embarrassed to admit how much I paid for a framed picture of fish! LOL}

The photo of the

Very nice, Jools. Did you try "photo-bombing" the fish to sneak your own face onto the poster? That would have been fun!

The framed product! I chose a slightly rustic unpainted wood frame, since these fish are wood eaters.
Hope to see some of you this Saturday for Ingo's presentation.

Yes, indeed. I never knew L174 was such a challenge; since I hope to get some in the future, it's good to know what I might be up against.
Thanks, Ingo! I hope you enjoyed your visit to California. Cheers!

Whaa! Eric, so you presented on 8/3? Didn't make the connection with your last name. Guess I'll know next time. Hope it was a good talk?
On another note, I PM'ed you.

LOL... It was a talk, that much I'll offer.* Whether it was good or not is for the club to judge. Later this week, they will be posting the presentation in its entirety on their
YouTube channel. You can see what you missed then.
Cheers, Eric
(*Although I've been public speaking for decades, I'm still an amateur on catfish; so hopefully there are no factual inaccuracies in my presentation. If you watch the presentation and find any, let me know so I don't repeat them if I ever say this stuff again. Understand also that my audience was everything from young teenage fish-keeping newbies to PhDs and even to other biology professors; so I soft-pedaled some details and explanations for the novices while at the same time I had to make the talk academically rigorous enough to be worthwhile for the veterans - that's a lot harder than it might seem)

Yes, I know what you mean. I too have had plenty of experience talking in front of crowds and agree, it isn't always as easy at it appears.
