So this is my catfish Thanatos (Because she looked like she was wearing a skull)

The above image was her original colouration, she was like this through most of her life.

Unfortunately about 15 years ago I was pretty inexperienced and introduced Un quarantined fish into my tank, it took a while before I knew what was going on but eventually diagnosed as velvet and treated successfully

And this is her now, much happier in her planted tank gets on well with the other fish.... Mostly tetras, more active at night although will occasionally Come and say hi during the day. when I sit next to the tank she comes over to me. Thanks for your time and hope you can help

Hi, the colouration looks normal to me in the third picture, never seen it occur as it has in the first picture, I had a couple of these, third pic looks very much the same in terms of the colouration, as mine both did.

It looks like your fish suffered from lateral line erosion (see http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... hp?t=41524).

If the affected area is symptomatic, this is the absolute unbelievable case I've ever seen.

I'd seen this before in Synodontis Eupterus, but never such a severe case, so I wouldn't have considered this. Seems to have made a full recovery though.

I am focusing on the positive. That you had your cat 20 years. Beautiful.

20 years is an awesome achievement indeed, which is why I took the liberty of linking this thread here http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... t=lifespan

Wow thanks guys, I still feel like I'm a novice at all this, he used to be my dads fish until 3 years ago he wanted to get rid of the tank and so I took it on. I don't think it's lateral line erosion as there was never any obvious signs of damage or ulceration and also as far as I'm aware it was born like it,she also only lost the colour after the Oodinium infection which is in the middle pic which I have to say was very lucky to get her to make it through (respitory distress, blind in both eyes, flashing... Ect it was awful) also my dad never changed the filter, never used water conditioner so god only knows how this fish survived the majority of its life...

Thanks for the welcome anyway, now I know the species I can tailor conditions more towards her :D
