Ng, HH & CJ Ferraris Jr, 2016. A new species of anguilliform catfish (Actinopterygii: Siluriformes: Bagridae) from Bangladesh and northeastern India. Zootaxa 4079: 381–387.

Abstract

We describe Olyra praestigiosa, a new anguilliform bagrid catfish, from the Brahmaputra River drainage in Bangladesh and northeastern India. The new species differs from congeners in having the following unique combination of characters: interorbital distance 30–37% HL; body depth at anus 6–9% SL; length of adipose-fin base 99–16% SL; adipose fin separate from upper principal caudal-fin rays; post-adipose distance 15–18% SL; 17–22 anal-fin rays; caudal peduncle length 14–19% SL; and caudal peduncle depth 6–8% SL.

This is the species in the Cat-elog formerly known as sp. "Chel River". The entry has been updated.

Nice! A copy if possible. Also, Do you suppose this is the same species I encountered in Bhutan? In our book, unfortunately, I think we have it tentatively as longicaudata. We may have added a note that it may be a new species, I don't remember.

I think I might've seen the photo you posted here and remarked that it was conspecific with O. praestigiosa (assuming that was the same photo you used in the book). Do you know where I can get a copy of the book?

HH,

The book was released primarily for Bhutanese agencies and policy makers and hydroelectric projects etc. However, I got a box of them shipped back to me from Bhutan. I will be selling a few copies (about 10-15) to recoup my costs if you are interested. Email me if so.

Just looking at the images, it looks like the anal fin on praestigiosa extends a lot further anteriorly than the one we have in Bhutan. I will look at the specimens this week. I only have 2-3 specimens in my possession unfortunately.

Yup, your fish looks like it has 10-11 anal-fin rays, which would be very low for Olyra. No other species I know has that kind of anal-fin ray count, so I'd say you have an unnamed species there.
