My Piece of the Xingu-

Yesterday I received a piece of the Xingu. On a recent trip to Brazil our Fearless Leader managed to "smuggle" a boulder from the river out of the country. It is now in my possession. Well it isn't actually a boulder, it is a rock the size of a child's fist. :d Maybe it will look like a boulder to a small fish.

Now I am faced with the decision of into which tank which I should put it. I have 3 tanks of zebras, one of L236, two with L173 and then 2 with L173b. Will it remind them of "home?"

A big thank you to Jools.

I am delighted it made it back across the Atlantic! While rocks might be all that are left of that part of the Xingu, I am happy that you have it as a memento.

I am now too old and in not the greatest shape. 45 years of cigarettes have trashed my lungs even though I quit a number of years ago. So despite my wish to be able to have visited the Xingu myself, I would probably have drowned had I tried. So for me this is good as it will get.

Any fish keeper can have fish that are Xingu species in their tanks, but I have an actual piece of the Xingu itself now. I am a happy camper.

You could get more and sell them... Think about it, they are the next "pet rock." ;-)

You should get a least a group of them so you can breed them. That way when the damn fails and developers give up, the Xingu will see the return of some of its original long lost/exiled members of its ecosystem :-p

Excellent idea. And I realize that true hobbyists are against drug- or hormone-induced breeding, but these are so endangered that (I think it's safe to assume) the people on this website would understand if you resorted to such measures... I mean, what if the males can't get e-rock-shuns? =))
