Hello,
I had a pair a couple of years ago. They seem to be rather slow growing unless they are put in a tank by themselves. They always seemed to be skittish about competing with other fish for food was the eventual conclusion. My spawns were always very small, 6-8 max. A male and several females in a heavily decorated tank would probably do a lot better. They also seem to be kinda skittish about heavy lighting, so I eventually started covering part of their tank to cut down on this. They are not really specific about water quality so long as it is clean and a little extra current doesn't hurt.
