Hey guys I am making a stocking list for my 180 gallon 6 foot tank. I was looking to keep a larger cory along with something smaller but still sizable. I was think sterbai and brochis splendens but was curious if there are any other large cories that aren't b splendens.
Also i am unsure if b splendens and sterbai can cross breed, does anyone know ?

Hi reillyp,
Welcome to PlanetCatfish. As for your fish choices,
and
are pretty different, so cross breeding is unlikely, although I couldn't guarantee it. That said, if you are going to keep groups of each species, then you are very safe. Again, there is rarely a 100% guarantee in this type of situation, but when you have a group of the same species in a tank, the members of that species would much rather spawn with their own kind than with any other species that might be present. Where you run into trouble is when you keep one fish of one species, and one fish of another species - in that case, they have no one else to spawn with except each other, even if they aren't the same species.
What temperature do you plan to keep the aquarium at? If you're willing to keep it a little cooler, members of the genus
Scleromystax (e.g.,
) get pretty big and they are beautiful. That said, they are at the opposite end of the spectrum from sterbai in terms of temperature preference, if I recall correctly.
You can use this website's "Species search tool" (on the "Search" tab at the top of this page) to find fish that might suite your needs. Here are the results for all members of the family Callichthyidae that are 3" or larger:
