My L309's also bred but he kicked the eggs again..... about the 5th time he has done this and they always fungus up! :(( There are a couple others that might have eggs I am not sure about yet too. b-)

Is this usual or did something extraordinary happen? Like big climatic changes or lots of waterchanges?

Congrats anyway!! :-)

Extra water changes and dropped the TDS a little plus with our weather I think helped but yes it's been a better week than normal. First time for the L004's and the L14's have been acting like they want to breed..... had a couple trapping now but no eggs as of yet.

Thank you and good luck with the L260's...... my L260's like to breed in pairs to a tank but I know others have bred them in groups. If you have another tank it may be worth putting 1 pair in a different tank and see if that works for them.

Thanks Chuck, I think I will try that today and see what happens, since nothing has happened yet. Question for you, Do you use a small power head in the tank with them to create current? or just sponge filters??

Most of my tanks just have air driven sponge filters... including the L260's.

Interesting what you say about the L260 breeding in pairs. I have what I believe are two pairs, they were sexed when I purchased them from a reputable store, in the same tank.

All 4 of them just hide out in their own caves occasionally fanning, I rarely see them interacting with each other, if I ever get the room for more tanks I'll separate them and see if it helps, but for now they'll need to stay together!

You can put a divider in the tank to separate the pairs too...... egg crate (for florescent lighting fixtures) works well for this and is cheap enough. I find they fight over the best caves and the best males to breed with..... mostly at night when we don't look at them.

Thanks for the insight Chuck.

I have some egg crate as it happens, I might give that a go.

This "eggcrate" sounds like a good idea. Now I need to find it in Germany :D

Where do you guys get it?

I got mine from Pier Aquatics in Wigan.

Most people recommend an electrical or lighting shop, but I've not had much luck finding any in an electrical shop.

It can usually be found on online auction sites if you can't find it anywhere else, it is arranged as a grid usually with 8-10mm square gaps.

Not sure if over there you guys have places like Home Depot. This are 'Home Improvement" centers which sell everything from tools and building materials to lighting, flooring, paint, outdoor equipment and furniture etc.

Eggcrate comes in a variety of types with different size "holes." It is used to diffuse the light coming from ceiling fixtures. So if you don't have home improvement centers, try lighting suppliers as noted above. Eggcrate is often used by African cichlid keepers who have big rock work in tanks. The eggcrate goes on the tank bottom glass under the substrate to protect it.

Depending on the tank size, you may be able to find pre-made tank dividers http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... atid=26231

I just remembered, when TwoTankAmin mentioned cichlid keepers using it to rest rocks on, people who keep saltwater tanks also use it, for resting rock/coral on. So if you have any aquatic shops with a marine section, they may have some, or be able to recommend somewhere.
