I imagine any major river in SE Asia or in South America contains lots of catfish species. Africa a bit less diverse. North America less.

Yet, I don't keep my catfish by their place of origin as the first selection rule. I would if I could. My first rule is that they don't eat or try to eat or beat up / bully each other. An ugly sin by purists and biotopists, I know... albeit I think my fish adapt adequately to my water chemistry and composition, which is pretty much the same in all my tanks.

You'll need lots of research on which ones are compartible and which ones are not. Also creating an environment where all of them can coexist will be something you have to consider. I am not so good at this but it would be interesting to see what you come up with. Please keep us updated.

Depending upon your tank water stats, you could do a Congo catfish setup with big social groups of...
Pareutropius spp. (mandivillei, if you can source them)
Synodontis nigriventris
Synodontis brichardi

Dimly lit; bits of bogwood scattered (or glued to the tank sides) at various levels; pebbles and stones on the tank floor; moderate to strong current.
