Hello Everyone, could anybody confirm me the ID of this Pleco? It appears to be a Peckoltia sp. "Rio Maicuru" but I would like to be sure about it.

I'd don't know for sure, but I'd hazard a guess at . Either way, the fish needs to be settled to get a view of the normal colouration. Was it just introduced into that tank by any chance?

Thanks for your response Jools. That Pleco has been in my tank for around 3 weeks, so it is supposed to has it's normal coloration.

is sometimes called the "Chocolate zebra pleco" and is sometimes sold as the "Colombian zebra pleco." Neither of these fish look exactly like your photo, although the pattern of H. debilittera is reminiscent of your fish (but the colors look off).

There is also , which is sold as a Para zebra. The orange colored body is similar in tint, but the face and overall color pattern doesn't look at all the same.

I have now L 340 and they look completely different - almost black with medium thin white - yellowish lines. I had L 270 too - they were black and white too - youngsters. The fish on the picture has too much orange and pink with comparison to these species.

Nice fish.

We also refer to L129 as a "Colombian zebra pleco" in New Zealand. In the absence of a common name on the species page is it worth updating the species page with this common name (and any others that surface)?

It reminded me of this pic, and the fact that L340 do turn up in different hues like this.

Whatever it is, that looks like atypical colouration. What might help us next is a shot of the mouth.

If it is a , and perhaps even in any case, I think it will need some time to ID. More pics please! :-)
