Sick white line pim, swollen belly and protruding anus.

A week ago i noticed that my WLP appeared to be a bit bloated and had a slight cloudiness to its eyes, plus wasnt eating and seemed less active than usual, suspecting a internal bacteria infection of some kind i quarentined the fish and started a course of anti internal bacteria medication (interpet #9) and melafix. At first there seemed to be improvement and the cloudy eyes cleared up but by day 4 the fishes belly had swollen to over twice its usual size. Yesterday on day 6 it had reached a critical point and what looked like a yellow blob of jelly was protruding from the fishes anus, the fish also appeared to be in some distress as it was franticly swimming around the tank. In a last ditch attempt to save the fish before havin to submit to euthanaisia i removed the fish from the water and using pressure from my fingers burst the jelly like blob from which some 20 to 30ml of yellow oilly liquid spurted, the fishes swollen belly returned to normal size instantly (though a little saggy). I returned the fish to the Q tank where it swam into a darkened corner and lay on its side breathing heavilly, i did not expect the fish to make the night.
This morning the fish is swimming about in its normal fashion although stilll is breathing heavilly and the yellow jelly sack has retreated back into the fish. Does anyone here have any idea as to what is going on with my fish and how to treat the fish further should the symtoms return, im sure removing fish and squeezing them isnt normal fish life saving practice although it seems to have worked for the time being. I had a female bristlenose die from a similar ailment some months ago but put it down to her being spawnbound as the pair had been producing eggs routinely for some time before but had recently stopped, but since i only have one WLP and they dont captive breed i somehow doubt it was the cause this time, the fish were in two seperate tanks so it is unlikely the pim caught a disease from the BN.

Thanks in advance for any ideas or answers, CFC.

Just an update to anyone interested the pim seems to have made a full recovery and there have been no signs of the bloated stomach returning. The fish is now back to its normal active self and is eating well.
