Chaca will eat anything they are housed with unless the tankmate is much, much larger. They really need their own tank.

Hello everyone, I trust its okay to post my issue on this part of the forum as its very relevant to the already above messages.
I have a 3 foot with 12 tiger barbs which are full grown, so around 3 inches in size each and I was thinking of getting a frogmouthed catfish as the bottom dweller for the tank. I have no experience of keeping the catfish yet but was wondering if the catfish would be able to fit a fully grown tiger barb into its mouth? Looking at footage on Youtube and seeing them at my LFS I would think not however I'm sure there are people on this forum, willing to help, would know the answer to this question?
Thank you in advance.
Aman

Yes, full grown tiger barbs would be quickly eaten.

Thank you Shane.
Back to the drawing board then. Maybe a pair of Banjo catfish, shoal of dwarf Chain loaches or a very hardy shoal of Corydoras. but I'm not in a hurry so I've got some time before a decision:)

Banjos would be fine, but if you wanted something a bit more interesting, then you could look to see if your LFS can get some (Eel-tail Banjo). But as a bottom fish that is active, a shoal of Corydoras would be ideal.

Martin, wouldn't corys be vulnerable to consumption by the Chaca?

Eric

Hi Eric
I read the OP had decided against Chaca, and these were alternatives as totally agree, the corps would be easy prey for a hungry Chaca

Martin

Hi Martin, Thanks. My mistake; when I read the OP involved here, I mistakenly read the OOP (original original post, I.e., the post at the top of this thread, in which the Chaca was already owned). I forgot that this thread was restarted with a different premise.

Your advice to Aman246 is spot on.

Cheers, Eric
