Hi

Have just been out with the intention of geting a bristlenose. As usual didn't get the fish I intended but came back with an alternative.

It was labelled 'Ancistrus Cucvlae'. But I can't find any info. Is this mis-spelt or mis-labelled? Anyone heard of this catfish?

It is a mottled brown/black colour with white tips on the tail fin.

I was told it was a relatively small fish, growing to 4/5 inches - its currently about 1 1/2 inches long. Hope this is true!

No pictures as yet but will add them to this post once he/she has posed for me.

It is rather difficult, or almost impossible, to tell which Ancistrus somebody got without any picture. If it is one of those two



then they are breeding forms of some kind of so-called "common" Ancistrus, the one on the right is called "Turtoiseshell", I don't know if the other breeding form got a name.

Okey, I think I got what you are talking about, your fish looks similiar to that one:

I would say it is close to what is called a "common" Ancistrus. This fish was for decades Ancistrus dolichopterus for us aquarists until Ingo searched for the real dolichopterus (what is acc. to him the aquarists A.hoplogenys or White-Seam-Ancistrus). So our common Ancistrus has yet not a new scientific name. And it is a bit hopeless to find one, because there are so many what look almost like them.

Out of interest how large do these fish grow?

I would say about 10 maybe 12 cm.

Excellent - the perfect size for my tank.
