Costa e Silva,T., Ribeiro,F.V.R., Lucena,C.A.S. & and Lucinda, P.H.F. 2018. Pimelodus speciosus (Teleostei: Pimelodidae), a new catfish species from the rio Tocantins drainage, Brazil. Ichthyological Exploration of Freshwaters, Volume 28, Number 2 (January,2018):97-106.
Pimelodus speciosus, new species, is described from the rio Tocantins drainage, Brazil. It differs from its congeners by the possession of a unique colour pattern consisting of variably shaped dark blotches irregularly distributed along the flanks and coalescing horizontally and vertically, and background coloration light pink to light grey. Pimelodus speciosus is an additional example of species reinforcing the hypothesis of the rio Tocantins drainage as an area of endemism within South America.
