Refilling the ground floor tank from the 2 floors up

I persuaded my other half to let me have the bulk of my tanks in a room along one wall mainly and next to an on suite we don't use. Great only 1 tank not by my water preparation.

On same side of the house so onto fountain pump out window down to the ground floor. Through the patio doors and into the tank. So far all good everything is just long enough.

Normally this pump takes so long that I have time to make and drink a coffee while watching it fill. Today first time doing it door bell goes go out say hello take item in have a very short chat 5 minutes and queue Mrs screaming. Tank has over flowed and water is still coming down. Shout throw house out the door as I run up to stop the pump running dry.

Shut the pump off grab towels on way back down and it's clean up time.

Lessons learned

1 don't use a pump once it gets going.

2 use a connection on end so you can shut it off when you walk away. Planning on trying a spray connection that you can set open to allow switch on from upstairs and shut off downstairs.

Lesson 3 next time make sure the wife understands the risks being taken.

Now so far have had to clean up and buy a bottle of wine. Something tells me not going to hear the end of this for a little while if ever.

May also have to buy a takeaway some point.

Yeah lessons learned will get it better next time. Have listed possible damaged items in case I have made life bad and need insurance. I refused laminate or carpets anywhere near tanks so have a rubber floor. Hoping the trim on the tank doesn't swell and split. Chances are damages will be small so no harm done.

Still tank looks nice now and all cleaned up no dust in sight lol

I have overflowed many a tank, the plastic frame is never harmed. I use pumps to empty and other pumps to refill. I have ball valves on everything, None of it matters if you stop paying attention. I normally have tanks in 4 room year round. On occasion I have temporary tanks in other rooms and often have summer grow out and Q tanks set up on the screened in terrace. I can tell you I have flooded ever single room at least once and often several times. I am highly skilled in this regard and direction doesn't matter.

I can over fill easily, Flooding when taking out water is a bit more effort. Some tanks get emptied out a window or directly into a toilet. This makes it impossible to flood but pretty easy to do unintentional 80-90% water changes. I have even melted a heater or two this way and I put them as close to the bottom as feasible just to help prevent this.

I have even managed to overflow something sitting in the same room because i went online foa couple of minutes or got engrossed in something om TV.

I use a lot of hoses for things. most have garden hose connection compatibility. Even my utility sink has that on its faucet. I try to use only plastic type ball valves and splitters and I replace the metal hose ends with plastic ones as well. I don't want to risk anything from the metal leeching onto the water.
