That's wonderful!

For me that causes the best feeling in keeping fish (or any other pet) when they reward all the work we do to keep them how they like it by giving us babies. Even if raising babies can cause headaches.

Slowly, but surely, I am adding these wonderful pictures. I think I've downloaded up to part 28 (or so), so will add those and then go again with the remainder.

Hi @Haakon,

I'm uncertain on a few of the recent ones - can you please help with some background information or confirmation. First off, what is the undernoted one - the filename was .

Hey Jools,

Thanks for the kind words! This Ancistrus was sent to me from Aquarium Glaser, hence the very wrong filename. They sell them as A.tamboensis, but it seems they are actually A.triradiatus. Glaser say they often get them mixed with another Ancistrus species in shipments from Paraguay.

Hi Haakon,

Ok, so don't think they are , so the perhaps A. cirrhosus? A. triradiatus is a northern species, no? Not sure, these things are tricky!

Sorry, my bad - A.triradiatus was a severe typo 🤪 I meant to write A.pirareta! Also, there is a picture in the Evers & Seidel Wels Atlas II of this species, where they simply call it Ancistrus sp. "Paraguay". This is obviously very easy to mix up with , which is a different species.

Thanks for clearing that up, next one is the Ancistrus sp. from the Madre de Dios - is it one of the newer l-numbers from that river?

Good question, I must admit I don't know! I received it from Green Fish in Peru simply as Ancistrus sp. "Madre de Dios", so I think we have a few IDs to consider here. I haven't really looked closely into all those L-numbers given to Ancistrus types from the area, so feedback and suggestions would be most welcome.

Well I think @Acanthicus might be a good start to help with ID - will have a look too but I don't know these Ancistrus well.

Cheers,

Jools

Happily, I think we're all up-to-date with the images posted. There were a couple of IDs that we're not sure about but other than that, all done (for now)!

A massive thanks to @HaakonH for taking the time to do this - the site is richer for having these images available for the record.

A raucously loud, "halls of valhalla" cheers,

Jools & crew;

I have basically grown up with Planet Catfish. It has always been my favourite website. Looking back to when I first started experimenting with fish photography, I can see how my pictures have (luckily) improved in quality. Some of the older ones are no longer on par with my personal standard requirements. The thing is, I want my contributions to match the high standard of this entire website. Since P.C. has been such a major part of my development as a fishgeek, and a source I always recommend to fresh recruits, I need to provide the best possible material.

I am in fact very proud and very grateful to see my pictures included in the profiles. I know I have bombarded you guys to some extent, and you have done a great job by plowing through the piles! From now on there will luckily just be droplets of new material, which will hopefully still be up to required standards for P.C.

Many thanks for the cooperation so far, and Skål from the halls of Valhalla 😅🍻
