HI,

any idea what species these Glass catfish are ? they were purchased from the same shop and tank and belived to be Kryptopterus macrocephalus ?

but under further investigation they appear to be two different species , One species doesn't have as many barbels and a small dorsal fin and occupies the higher regions of the tank , the other species has no dorsal fin and more barbels and occupies the lower regions of the tank.

any ideas ?

My first thought was above and below. However I am really not sure about the first one. I think it should have a tiny dorsal fin. @Silurus would know in an instant.

Could you maybe post some more pics of the first species?

That does not look like to me. That species has three distinct longitudinal stripes, less slender body, smaller eye, smaller mouth with less of an underbite and indeed also a small dorsal fin. See my pictures here: https://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/vie ... 81#p314012

Thanks Panaque and Silurus.

Silurus the cat log says the Ompok Rhadinurus has a short dorsal fin and for the life of me I can't see a dorsal fin on mine but it appears to be the best match.

the cryptopterus have settled in no problem and are feeding on slow sinking pellets.

the Ompok taking time but is at the disadvantage of not having the same species to shoal with.

Thanks All for the input :)

Ompok rhadinurus actually have very, very short dorsal fins (to the point that they are sometimes almost invisible).
