Hello everyone!

My name is Florin but since I`ve started using the internet, about 20 years ago I decided to use the nickname Killick. I liked it from the first day I heard it and it sounded more easy to pronounce by the people I was speaking with

I am, as most of the people subscribed on this forum, a pasionate fish keeper. My experience as an aquarist is moderate to advanced I could say, after being into the hobby for more then 15 years. Long story short I started this hobby by being in love with the aquarium plants and eventually ended up into keeping and breeding fish, more exactly fish from around South America.

In my collection I curently have Geophagus Abalios(wc), Biotodoma Cupido(wc), Red back Manacapuru Angels(F2), L333, L181, L200(wc), L204(wc), Corydoras Adolfoi, Corydoras Brevirostris(wc) and one of my favourites Loricaria sp. Rio Atabapo(wc).

My main display tank has 600l with measurements of 200 x 50 x 60(cm) with 2 x Fluval FX6 as filtration and one Eheim skimer.

In this tank there is a female(i think) of Loricaria that is looking gravid and I was wondering is there is a chance of her dying if she wouldn`t lay her eggs as I don't know for sure if I have a male yet

I took some pictures of her last night and would really like to receive your opinion on this matter. On photos 1 and 2 it`s the female and on photo 3 I hope it might be a male:

I do weekly water changes of 50 % straight from the tap and have parameters with these values:

Temperature 80-82
PH 7.2 - 7.4
KH 5 - 6

I am really forward to your answers as I do not want to loose her and hopefully she will deliver some fry instead.

Welcome to PlanetCatfish. Your tank is very nice and the fish look great. If I may make a suggestion, I think your plecos would benefit from more hiding places.

As for your Loricaria, yes I've heard stories of fish dying from being egg-filled, but I do not know how common that is. For many fish, if a female makes eggs but doesn't spawn, she will often resorb the eggs pr release them (unfertilized) to get them out.

Hopefully someone else can offer more specifics for you about your particular Loricaria.

Any advice I receive is always considered and well apreciated. However, I tried to avoid using too many hiding places because it is a pain to clean up de mess and I only have 7 plecos in that tank.

Bump! Anyone able to give any info? Haven’t found anything related while searching on the forum.
