L333 and L134

Greetings,
I came to this forum in search of advice for purchasing some new breeding groups.

My first question is regarding L134. I have been offered a group of 4 L134 2 males and 2 females all around the size of 3.2 inches for 250 bucks. I have also been offered another group of L134 2 males and 2 females all of the size 3.5 inches for 280 bucks. My question is whether or not 3.2 inches is of breeding size for peckoltia compta so I can choose to save 30$. According to my research (I don't have experience as I have only ever bred peckolita compta at the size of 3.7 inches) I am pretty sure that 3.5 inches is the minimum breeding size; so please correct me if I am wrong.

Next, I have a question regarding L333. I have been offered a "high white gradient" pair (male and female) where both plecos are 3.5-4 inches for 230$. Does anyone know of an L333 specimen like this? I have never heard of one but am admittedly very curious and would like to see pictures or descriptions so I can know whether or not I would like to pay this larger sum of money for L333.

Also, does anyone know about hybrids of L66 x L333? I have some 3.5 inch ones offered to me at 35$

Thank you

Hi Goggy,

I'll address the Peckoltia compta question: Yes it's possible for them to breed at the smaller size, but it's uncommon. Mine spawned with males at only 60mm SL, but most peoples' spawn at larger sizes. This species is not a particularly fast growing species, and it may take a while for them to get used to your tank. If you're in a hurry buy the bigger fish.

Cheers, Eric

Thank you for the reply Eric.

Since yours spawned at 60mm would you consider 81mm (3.2 inches) as a larger size that can more commonly spawn?

Thanks,
Goggy

Are you counting the tail in your measurement? I am not.

My seller for the 3.2 inch (81mm) L134s does not measure head to tail. He says that the head to tail size is 3.5 inches (89mm). Do you know if pleco people usually include the tail? like commonly among breeders or in the species profiles on this site?

All sizes listed on this website are SL (without tail) unless otherwise specified. Have you read the details of the breeding logs for ? You can read them here: Link. They often include SL body size measurements.

Thank you for the breeding logs, they were very useful.

after looking at 15 of them it seems like 60-70mm is a common size for a Compta to breed at.

I have confidence that the 80mm breeding group will be a promising purchase

I just looked around the breeding logs and can’t seem to be able to navigate my way through (maybe it’s because I’m on my phone). Could you please direct me to a L333 breeding log if there is one?

Thanks so much,
Goggy
