In the past, I've shipped a variety of fish I've bred, with out issue.

I recently thought . . . many catfish have spines that easily poke through plastic bags.

So how do you safely pack and ship a large catfish to prevent the bag from being pierced and leaking all over the place?

There are several ways, BTW it goes for many other spiny and toothy fish, not only the catfish.

There are thicker PE bags. There are 15 mil or some such clear PVC bags.

One can fashion a sack or a box out of 45 mil rubber and place this in a secondary plastic sack.

Also, one can place a hard(er) plastic jug akin to a milk jug or a hard(er) plastic box inside a plastic sack.

One possibly could use a large glass jar with a screw on lid.

One could use a hard wall plastic cooler.

Finally, one can build a crate for the biggest and most precious specimen and place a hard wall plastic vessel inside with a lid, like a small water storage tank, IBC tote, etc.

Wow, so many ways! Have you used all the methods listed above?

I've been on the receiving end of several of these methods. I don't ship fish but know personally shippers that use these methods.

IDK if I agree with this, neighbor. They are for defense against predators for the most part.
