today have been a joyeous occassion and with no intention of buying any pleco at all... all of a sudden, without me knowing!... I find myself browsing at a popular (but very cramp) fish shop here in Singapore... at 9.45pm... haha...

This shop was going to close for the day but luckily I overheard that they have a new batch of pleco just arrived at their place.. and there it is .. I happened to see a particular pleco that is round and chubby.. looks like xanto but in black color (the shop ladyboss tell me that it is actually "BLUE" when it settles down) and of course I am impressed.. especially when they tell me that this lot just arrived and there is only 1 pc!

well.. at the end of it.. bought 3 pcs (when I have prepared NOT to buy anything!)

being a newbie here, guys, please help me identify this chubby look-like plecos... appreicate your comments... can it be blue, as claimed by the shop? I have to admit that I was a little overwhelmed when I select these fishes... didn't get to choose the fish properly, as the shop is closing for the day....

my second fish is one that look like scarlet L025.. but I know it isnt.. so what is this species? L number?

last fish... need to know what L number....

well well! seen them already! very very cool fish! the first 1 looks a bit fat tho... love the 1 with the red tail!

That top one, the blue, from the side looks just like our Pacific rockfish. He's my fave out of the three. That dorsal fin is just SO cool! It will be neat to find out what they are.

The first looks to me like a juvinile Pseudorinelepis spp. but I can't be sure from the photos.

The second is an L-114.

The third, I don't know. I am always playing catch-up with the many striped L-numbers as of late.

The first one is L-239 and a female, the second one is for sure a Pseudacanthicus species but I'm not really sure that is L-114.
The third one look like a small Panaque species and probebly a female too but not a clue wich L-nb.

As Janne pointed out, the first fish is L 239. In Aqualog it was L 232 although the DATZ L 232 was a very different fish. Maybe the new Aqualog books will sort all of this out. Although, I fear it will make it worse in sense because now we will have to ask L 239 from DATZ, Aqualog or New Aqualog?
When in good shape, and under the right light, they have a very blue sheen. They appear to belong to a new genus closely related to Panaque and do not fit in the Panaque dentex subgroup group either (aka Panaqolus). Note that one very unique feature is that the dorsal and adipose fins are fused. They chew some wood, but I would not call them true "wood eaters" like other Panaque. They come from the upper Orinoco and arrive in Bogota via Puerto Carreño. Mine eat potatoes, carrots, cucumber and squash as well as algae and shrimp pellets. They are a black water fish but are pretty adaptable as long as the water is not too hard and the pH not to far above neutral.
They are not very sociable. They do not fight with each other, they just all avoid one another. On a positive note, they really do not seem to care for caves and spend much of their time perched on a rock or piece of driftwood in the open.

Janne, you are the first to tell me that the first fish is L239 and after doing some seaching, I do find many pictures of them, with blue overcoat and blue fins.. thanks for that

kgroenhoej, I think the third fish is close to L204 but I am still not jsut as sure about it.. but like pturley, I am also having problems identifying strips ones

god i'm so jealous of the asian aquarium scene....those are some super rare plecos if we ever get them....here in canada
yeah...just wanted to let u guys kno that us canadians rarely get really nice plecos

AZN, BA's carries alot of pleco varity. Picked up a Spotted Rubbernose the other day and the store was full of plecs. Tigers, white seam BN, peppermint BN, gold nugget, vampire/galaxy lots!

still leaves me jealous!! aint gonna get any species here with eaze! im tying to get me some species ordered but even that is a problem!!

I've been to all the BA's in ontario, and all the variety of species combined don't match the aquarium scene in Asia/Europe. I just got back from Hong Kong in that famous Aquarium Street and that was bliss....not only for plecos but all species of captive fish.
