Hi everyone,
I have 3 of these, have had them for about 3 years. They were labelled as S. decorus when they were bought as tiny juveniles - pretty obvious that's not what they are! The pics are of the largest dominant one, the others are about the same but with a few more dots (they are too shy to come out for a good photo). The closest I can find is S. ocellifer, but what bothers me is that the adipose fin seems not big enough. Of all the Syno's I have seen here in Australia for sale it seems that we tend to get pure species, I have never seen any obvious hybrids around for sale. But I wonder if these ones I have are? Any help will be appreciated.

Synodontis ansorgii comes to mind. How big and frequent are the spots on the other two?

thanks very much for the quick reply. I have found a pic of one of the others (though both of the others look the same, only the one I posted first has less spots). Hope you can excuse the grotty glass!

Synodontis ocellifer x Synodontis eupterus hybrid - my guess.

Could be S.velifer, large wide humeral process looks about right.

Synodontis velifer has a larger adipose fin (almost as large as in S. eupterus) and would have much longer first dorsal-fin rays.
