6 year old secondhand catfish, 4” long & chubby

Post by Jacky »

I bought a secondhand cichlid/catfish setup. The previous owner said he had them for 5 years. I’ve owned them for about one. I am unable to ID. Seller says he’s a Synodontis Eupterus, but if so he’s a midget. The other syno e in the tank is over twice his size.
He resembles an inside down cat, but is rarely upside down.

I have 3 very small Synodontis nigriventus. Babies. They are basically brown with splotchy lighter tan areas. This guy is dark grey and has tiny dots, similar to syno E. Maybe syno n. has grey variates that resemble syno E. coloration?

To my eye it also looks like a nigriventris. Surely not eupterus - we can forget about that. The only thing that throws me off are the small white spots aligned vertically, but this could be mood-related, I guess.

Look at the photos in the datasheet Dave hyperlinked for you above.

For sure, it’s a mature female S. nigriventris.

It is definitely a Synodontis nigriventris, the white spots on it are sensory pores I am pretty sure.
