Hi, I recently imported what I thought was L471 Dwarf Spotted Plecos. They were labeled as such, but I would like confirmation on them please. They came in larger than I thought the L471 got. They are 2.5-3" which would be full grown adults. Please let me know what you think.

There are several black with white/yellow spotted type 'plecos', and I'm definitely no expert but do know a photo of the mouth (from underneath) can help as the shape of the teeth is a useful identification feature.

Don't think a picture of the mouth would help in this case. Fish definitely look to be Hypancistrus, the question is are they Contradens, L201, or L471. If I had to guess by that picture, and the descriptions on this site, I would say

About 8 years ago I purchased what I was told were L201s from two different sources. I've bred 100s of fry from those original fish and although I do believe mine were L201s, most topped out around 2.5". Personally, I have trouble believing that Contradens, L201, and L471 are 3 different fish, but that's just me.

Hi,

I'd say H. contradens too.
Furthermore I am pretty sure that L 201 and L 471 are representatives of the same species, and yours is none of these two.
