Unfortunately, when I zoom in on the photos, I can see only one fish clearly in any given photo. I can confirm that you have one male, but I can't tell if you have two, or three.

I've got two males myself, but no females. :-(

Cheers,
Eric

Hey, The first photo looks like a male to me, the second is in the wrong position to sex, but, the rest all a bit harder, they appear to just be old enough the rest in the photos look male but this is not for sure.
Personally I have 4 females and 2 male gyrina. These are fun, they don't know when to stop eating and their belly can become larger than their length.
Sorry I couldn't help further.

Thanks, I will work on trying for some better picks. Once I placed a light over them they wouldn't sit still.

Confirmed I have 3 males and a female. I caught all four and by comparing the known male to the other 3 males that sexed. Wouldn't cooperate with the camera guy though.

Hi,

Mine are quite different, which I think means that they are adult colouration, is that correct?
Tatia gyrina.jpg
They are more orange than you see in the picture and I think are 2 male and 3 female.

Fishguy1978's are like mine at the sub-adult stage, characinkid yours are adults. This variation is normal in age, and collection location. As the ones from Suriname vs. Peru tend to look a little different. Someone will have to look into these differences more in the future. I have slowly started researching, but this is a species that we don't have much data on. I have even seen some that are a bright pastel yellow color, my male is starting to change like this too. There is just so much variation, it is truly a unique species. (or group of similar species)

I'm not sure about the juvie/adult differences in coloration. I have only had mine for a few months and only see them at feeding time.

Any thoughts on breeding these? Is it the same as other Tatia such as T intermedia?

Yes, that is the plan. I would like to add more females. I passed on 3 this last week because they were all males. I believe the spawning habits are similar. I have a trio of T. intermedia (1F/2M) that will hopefully spawn.

OK, thank you. Ive bred my T intermedia quite a few times so Ill follow the same routine and see what happens. The race is on to see who can breed them first!! :)

Moved the T gyrina to the tank where I had held the T intermedia. I added a small powerhead as a water mover.

4 of my 5 wild gyrina have adapted really well to captivity, but one continues to only accept bloodworms (both frozen and dried)!
I am really hoping that they decide to breed soon. They are in a 10G alone with a little sand on bottom, broken flow pot pieces, a pleco tube and a spawning mop. Im hoping this gives them enough choices of where to spawn when they are ready.

Nice. Do you have any pictures?

Feeding Video of my Tatia gyrina
Would love feedback on what I might try differently to get them to spawn?

Just read an interesting piece of info on Scotcat:
"Also a report on Tatia creutzbergi, (Tatia gyrina) with them placing their adhesive eggs on the underside of wood with no broodcare after the event."

Going to try and add wood to my tank this evening and see if they use it at all?

I still have the 3 Tatia gyrina and the female is so fat with eggs her belly is dimpled. I was able to watch her and one of the males flirting but no spawning.
