New group of l397

After getting reassurance from other members, I ended up pulling the trigger and getting a group of 8 wc l397. They're smaller than I thought they'd be with most of them at ~9 cm SL but out of the 7 I was able to get a look at I have 3 confirmed males with hairy tales and then 4 unsexed/unsure. Do I have at least 1 female? I'm thinking I have 2-3 but would be nice to get some second opinions.

Thanks,
Seb

Hi Seb,

I agree those genital papillae look female on both fish. But dang, what's with the odontodes on that one "female?"

Good luck,
Eric

Less than 3 weeks later and I already have my first trapping :d ! The tanks above the garage and right after taking this picture someone opened it causing the male to dart out of the cave so I turned the lights off and I'll resist the urge to check the tank again until tomorrow hopefully they weren't thrown off too much. There's a lot of rain forecasted in the next week as well so fingers crossed.

If anyone is having trouble breeding panaqolus I can't recommend the use of wooden caves enough all my l002 spawns were in one as well.

A little update on the group no spawns yet but I currently have a pair trapping since yesterday and another pair that seems to be bit confused. I'm 99% sure there's already a pleco in the cave and it's a male, and the one outside the cave seems to be a male due to the few odontodes on the tail. It's been trying to force its way into the cave for at least 2 days as you can see in the attached video, and the other pleco isn't reacting aggressively. Could the "aggressor" be a female?

Thanks

Hi Seb,

I fixed the YouTube link you provided, so that the video should display. But youtube says you have the video set to "private." Nobody can see it.

Cheers, Eric

The pair that was trapping ended up spawning and I was able to pull ~25 wigglers from them but the original spawn was eaten by the male.
