Picked up some L82 yesterday. They have been on my wanted list for many years. ~3" to 5.75" TL.... looks like I have both sex in this group but are still very young.

Take care,
Chuck

Thank you. They seem to be eating well and exploring their new home (after lights out mostly). Gave them some black worms the first night just to make sure they ate and some pellets. All were gone by morning.

Take care,
Chuck

I just got some L082. I know this thread is a little dated but like you it was one that I have been trying to obtain for a while. Are the ones you got wild or tank raised? I could not afford wild ones. Joe's Aqua had them on ore sale for 40$ each. But they said they could not get them after all. The breeders in Taiwan couldn't get the young to reach shippable age.
I ended up finding the for sale on Get Gills. They were 200$ each but they recently put them on sale for 95$ each.
Yours also look in the picture like they have yellow on the fins? Is this so?
Are they all still doing well?

Yes, they have a little yellow on the leading edge of the fins. They are all still doing well.... I didn't get them from Get Gills or Dan. Mine are wild fish from what I was told. Size has a lot to do with price..... I got ~5"s so I could do 5 and have a better chance at both sexes. Larger plecs tend to come in more male heavy. That is why I always like to buy younger/smaller plecs and grow them out.

Chuck

That's great to hear that they are all doing well. I agree with you about getting them small being better. About half the plecos I have currently are wild caught. But it's always cheaper when it's tank raised. Honestly without tank bred prices I most likely would not have gotten L082. I have looked on mine, the few times it has let me get a good look at it. And I don't think I see any yellow. You think they might vary in color in different parts of their range? Or do they get yellow as they age? Mine is about 2 1/2 maybe 3 inches at present.

I like to get tank bred fish when I can..... but I shy away from tank bred ones that I know have been imported. Imported plecs are cheaper..... but I don't support how some places get them to breed.
Even my smaller (~3" TL) ones have the yellow edge on the fins..... I believe it is a catch location difference.

Chuck

Not sure if I should start a new thread or just add to this one but wanted to share in my excitement. Had a trapping starting Sunday with the Scobinancistrus L82. This Morning I found the male had eggs in his cave. I pulled them and will try hatching them myself as this is their first spawn so don't want to chance him eating the eggs. The picture of the pair in the cave has the female trying to get back in the cave after she come out yesterday.......

Take care,
Chuck

Unfortunately, the eggs all turned white over a couple days. Not sure why..... might try turning the temp down a bit next time and see what happens or adding more RO. :-??

They trapped for two days.... the third day I found them in separate caves. Guess they aren't ready for a serious relationship yet...... male is a good 1.5" smaller than the female and might be why they didn't go through with it??

Chuck

Thanks Tony...... All in good time. They bred once, though the eggs turned out bad I know they will breed and it may have been that the male was too young. The same male was trapping this time but with a different female.

Chuck

Hi Tony,
TDS is 96ppm and PH~7.2 to 7.6.... I hate the color chart for the PH and can never figure out the exact color. Pictured is high PH test (right) and low test (left). I can say temp has a lot to do with them breeding..... ~83f (~28c) is what they seem to need.

Chuck

Thanks Eric,

So far dad is doing his job. Not sure how the eggs are as I don't want to bother him.... fingers crossed!! Picture taken the day before they bred.

When I turned on the lights this morning, I found 4 wigglers outside the cave! Will try to get some pictures later today. A little worried that it has only been 5 days since they were laid.... always thought/read it takes longer for them to hatch is why I am worried. I did take a quick peak inside and seen dad still has a nice pile of eggs in there. :d

Chuck

A couple more got kicked out. I will more some L397's out of a fry saver and use for the L82's later today.... till them a jar with an air stone will work. The L397's egg sacks are just about gone anyways so works out well.

Take care,
Chuck
