Pleco Caves - Do both M&F plecos utilize pleco caves?

Hello,

I have a pair of super red bristlenose plecos and typically I only see the male near the cave as he is either guarding the eggs or fry.

I have a group of 4 Leopard Frog plecos. All four have now claimed a cave. I purchased these four as juveniles on Sept 14, 2021.

My question is do females occupy caves as well when not breeding, or do I most likely have a group of four males? My only experience to go by is with my bristlenose.

Thanks

If I do need to go purchase some females please message me on where I might be able to find a seller who would be able to sex and sale just females if you know of one.

Thanks

Plecos will hide anywhere. It depends on the minutiae of the tank's hiding places and how many fish you have in there too. However, males do tend to hide head first. I'd look at the fish rather than where they hide once they're settled and mature.

With my experience both males and females will occupy caves.
