Gorgeous colors on that male! Wow!

As far as the thread title, it looks like your heater is plastic coated to prevent heater burns. Presumably, that guy would get off if it were too hot.

Isn't the upper portion of the heater the guts but not the heating element which is then located in the lower half of the heater?

I have had sucker mouth catfish get heater burns. Usually from squeezing between the heater and the glass.

That's his favorite place to perch, and the heater is not close to the glass, no suction cups
