Now that they are in the trade and we have members keeping some, how about . An or a heptapterid would be good too.

as a side note; are you guys tinkering with that list?

i was reading a few CotM's and after a few entries I ran headlong into this baby:

I believe you may have hit it just as Jools was making an update - to the best of my knowledge, this should now work. I've split the two posts here out to a separate post, as it's got nothing to do with the subject of "requests for CotM".

Just an update that I know I am really behind with CotM articles this year. My plan is to catch up ASAP now. I was wondering;

a) If anyone has suggestions as to species to write about and

b)If anyone would like to write (or ask someone to write) a piece.

I'm going to need four to get back to currency. So, if I don't have to write four myself, that'd be awesome!

Cheers,

Can probably give you one on Batasio, either B. fluviatilis (something I've kept in the past) or B. fasciolatus (what I have in my tank now).

a) If anyone has suggestions as to species to write about and

***** Any of the TSNs, especially the ID-ing
***** On the difference of S. lima and S. elongatus (I have a small write-up which however I'd never dare to even consider submitting but anyone could use it as a starting point if wanted)
***** B. filamentosum vs. B. capapretum (same comment as above)

b)If anyone would like to write (or ask someone to write) a piece.

***** I can cheerfully volunteer Rob (Chicxulub) who has a nice write-up on Bagarius, granted the genus appears to need much taxonomic work. He also has many others, e.g., on southern brown bullhead vs. spotted bullhead.

Either would be good, although I would probably favour the former only for my own personal reasons.

Typically, a CotM features one species and while it may mention how to tell it apart from others, it's not the main gist of the article. In the case of Rob, I do have that article form him in my email and I do hope to use it perhaps as a Shane's World piece in future.

Bigger cats don't feature heavily in CotMs as I don't really have much experience with them and finding someone who keeps them and can write is unusual.

Agreed, Jools. All this goes without saying but it is good to vocalize it sometimes :)

Two knee-jerks:

J: Typically, a CotM features one species and while it may mention how to tell it apart from others, it's not the main gist of the article.
V: Right. Except this means that some very popular cats may never receive a CotM honor because of the ID uncertainties. And that may be ok, I surmise.

J: In the case of Rob, I do have that article form him in my email and I do hope to use it perhaps as a Shane's World piece in future.
V: Yeah. That'd be much more appropriate than CotM. Agreed.

J: Bigger cats don't feature heavily in CotMs as I don't really have much experience with them and finding someone who keeps them and can write is unusual.
V: Understood. Hot topic too. PCF has a small community of big-cat-keepers. Many CofM articles are rather small and not info-rich. Just a few touches on top of what's already widely posted on the i-net or in the same Cat-eLog entry. If the req's are not great, I am sure folks like RedtailRob, Taksan, Stackdeck, Headbanger, Chicxulub, Koltsixx, VJ, and Co. could attempt to start chipping away at it.

Well, if they are popular, I will like to feature them. Although I do, you're right, tend to shy away from undescribed species but not always.

Both are fish I've not kept which doesn't preclude me from writing about them but I usually feature cats I've kept. They are both very good suggestions though. I write up the Banjo in a few weeks if nothing else is forthcoming.

I just wanted to thank especially HH and also James, Balaji and Birger for the CotM's to date this year. My 14-21 hours a week that I typically spend on the site on average has been limited to 7 or less for the past year or so. A CotM takes me most of that in a week to do, so that kind of help is hugely appreciated and means I have some time to fix (typically small) bugs and add other content to the site. With a new baby arriving in August, I don't see much of a change for a while, but I remain optimistic and indeed certain that what I can do with the site will pick up again.

Cheers,
