No idea if anyone else will find this interesting. I also added it to the notes under "my cats," but now I'm wondering if this is a common/known behavior or someone weird.

I have a lot of PVC hides, of which several are T shaped. Some are planted in the gravel so the stem elevates the horizontal portion, 1-2 (changes when I rearrange) are suspended mid-tank.

Both of my brachysoma prefer to be in the vertical stem of those Ts, nose up. I never see how they get into that position in the hides with the stem of the T planted in gravel - do they back in? Surely they're too big to turn around? But it's definitely how they prefer to hang out.

Anyone else's brachysoma prefer to rest vertically?

I have seen Horbagrus and Mystus leucophasis occasionally do this. In my personal experience, all bagrid catfish will choose the PVC that fits most snugly, anything with a large diameter or longer than required is usually ignored. Is the vertical PVC section of a lesser diameter or shorter than the horizontal section in your tank?

My experience keeping Bagrichthys macracanthus is that they frequently assume a vertical, nose-up resting position.

It is the typical resting position of my male as well. The female seems to prefer her cave while the male likes to rest vertically near the sponge filter.

The vertical section is narrower in diameter. My mystus leucophasis don't do it; they have first pick of hides and prefer to be horizontal. Bucket, the tank boss, likes her spot under a floating piece of driftwood with no side coverage at all.

Should have been clearer there. Bucket, who gets first pick of hides and chooses to be horizontal under floating wood, is a mystus leucophasis (1 of 4).
