Singh, P & L Kosygin, 2025. Glyptothorax palakkadiensis, a new species of catfish (Teleostei: Sisoridae) from Kerala, Western Ghats, India. Journal of Natural History, 59: 1383–1393.

Abstract

Glyptothorax palakkadiensis, a new sisorid catfish, is described from the Chalakudy drainage in Kerala, Western Ghats, India. It is distinguished from its congeners in the Indian subcontinent in possessing the following combination of characteristics: the presence of numerous oblique branches of the laterosensory canal that are visible as cream-yellow, spine-like structures radiating irregularly above and below the lateral line; skin ridges present over the entire thoracic adhesive apparatus, including the depressed region; the presence of plicae on the ventral surfaces of the pectoral spine and first pelvic-fin ray, and tuberculated fins. Glyptothorax palakkadiensis is the twelfth species of Glyptothorax known from the Western Ghats of India.
