I currently have a male and female bristlenose that are small but I am hoping to breed when they grow. I am trying to plan out the rest of the tank. I would like to add a few syno multipuctatuses (is that the plural form or is it punctati?) and a host pair of cichlids for them. Is this is compatible group? Will they all potentially breed when mixed in the tank like that or will they interfere with each other? My tank is a 45 gallon.

What are your water parameters like?

Well, I don't know the ph. I suppose I should buy one of those kits. I keep the tank pretty clean and I run a bio-wheel that says it can handle up to a 50 gallon tank. Our water runs down out of the mountains, I don't know if that makes it hard or soft. When it evaporates it seems to leave white mineral deposits. Sorry I don't have a better answer I'll see about finding out about the ph tommorow.

Just for the record, nomenclature isn't pluralized. Fish are only plural when there are multiple species involved

do bear in mind certain tankdimensions.

multipunctatus aren't that hard to breed once they're condinioned and they have room to move.

I wouldn't attempt any breeding in a tank less than 1 meter/4 feet or so.
They usually refuse to budge, despite good hosts and all.

There are actually two "schools" on breeding multies.
One let's the syno's do their thing, has a low yield on babies, but you only need a single tank.

the other involves several tanks, the 'art' of "stripping" cichlids and yields many babies.

before explaining in length; what's your choice?

well choice 1 seems pretty self explanatory so I guess I am interested in choice 2 the hard one.
Also my dimensions are 48'x19'x13'.
I suppose I could put in a divider if that helped as well.
