Is anyone aware of any research into the properties of Catfish Mucus?

A number of studies exist for channel catfish, mostly to do with the immune response to an induced bacterial infection.

Hi all,

There was something published a number of years ago regarding potential wound healing and/or antimicrobial effects of the slime of some ariid catfishes...in the Arabian Gulf (?). Sorry, can't remember off of the top of my head the exact location, although the general part of the world is correct. It was noted that fishermen would use the slime to treat various cuts and scrapes that they would get. I'll see about digging out the piece for more details.

Also, some auchenipterids will "make" a slime coccoon, similar to that seen in marine parrotfishes, for apparent protection while hidden away...sleeping?

It's a fairly well-established fact that catfish mucus contains immunoglobulins, lymphocytes and lysozyme among other things to help combat bacterial infections.
