Well, I must say that I am pretty darn happy with what I saw last night. I put food into the tank and was watching the fish eat when it happened! My adult USD cat actually came out of her usual hiding spot under a root and began to eat on a sinking pellet! I'm sure this isn't very exciting to most people, but this is the first time I have #1 ever really had proof that she ate (she was sick with dropsy for awhile) or #2 this is the second time I have seen her hang out in the open without being extremely guarded.

She even squabled with my pleco over a particular tasty piece of algae wafer. I was in shock and watched her for 20 minutes. The regular living room light was on and everything. I am just thrilled to have finally seen her do something! *L* The other juvenile USD cats came out and snacked a little bit, as well. I've never seen them eat either, so I'm just happy all around with my cats. They are so cool and it was really great to see them.

If you want to see upside-down feeding turn the lights down low and feed a pinch of freeze-dried bloodworm. It floats and they will skim it off the surface, feeding as a group, once they catch on.

I will try that now that I know all the fish are eating! I have freeze-dried bloodworms and frozen bloodworm cubes, so I'll try both and see what they like the best. Last night I fed them again and they all came out! Last night was also the first time I saw the adult USD cat with the two younger ones. I got a couple pictures of the adult one eating.





Does it take a couple times of feeding bloodworms for the fish to catch on to eating on the surface? I kind of think the barbs may make them a little afraid of going to the top to eat, but they are way bigger than the barbs, so it might not even be an issue. Will my new S. nigrita hang out with the USD cats, as they are other synos?
