Hi, I saw a Salmon Catfish at my LFS and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them. I know it is one of the Australian Arius species, but I'm not sure if it is Arius berneyi or Arius graefei. It was black with shprt barbels and a large mouth. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, KennyO

AFAIK the Salmon Cat is A berneyi, but I'm not that great wioth common names.....

but there was a guy talking about these on another forum, and I got interested; he was Australian and kept native fish.

What he told was that it's an easygoing, peaceful fish, less brackish than the South American Arius seemanni. But still a big one, about 1,5 foot if I remember correct.

Arius cats like that do like company. There's only 1 at the store?

The differences between A. berneyi and A. graeffei are in the Cat-eLog (or will be soon, since I wrote the data subs). The problem is that all Australian ariids are called salmon-tailed cats, although the two species mentioned above are the most commonly encountered in the trade.
