Synodontis brichardi - sexing

Hi everyone,
are Synodontis brichardi sexed in the much the same way as other Synos, such as eupterus or ocellifer? I haven't really had any trouble sexing eupterus, ocellifer angelicus. If anyone has any tips, I'd appreciate them!

Yes.
Have you read the sexing information in the cat-elog under
S. eupterus?

Yes, I've read the info about sexing eupterus - but I could never really get my head around it! Someone on this forum set me straight, and I guess it's practice too, the more I look at the better I get at sexing them. The info in the cat-e-log didn't have anything on sexing brichardi so I wasn't sure if they'd be the same as eupterus and other Synos.

I wrote the text quoted in the Cat-ELog beck in '95 so maybe I can help you out.
The method as described works easily on all
Synodontis (well at least all the species I have checked) however, some are easier than others. It depends on how large the genitals are in the species in question (OK, I'll admit it, size really does matter!
)
Synodontis multipuctatus, S. petricola, S. granulosus (or what was suppose to be a grannie), S. angelicus and S. shoutedeni are about the easiest to sex.
S. brichardi are sexable but I don't recall if I'd call them easy or difficult. I can tell you that
Synodontis pleurops are extremely difficult to sex, even in 10" long fish! (They must also suffer from a certain kind of envy!
)
Practice with some of the easier species. Once you see what I was trying to describe, it'll all make sense.
