A serious doubt...

I thought this corydoras was C. arcuatus, but Iâ??ve noticed that the black line reaches fully the end of the tail, something that do not happens in individuals of C. arcuatus shown at the Cat-elog (the line ends at caudal peduncle)... and neither Corydoras sp. cf. arcuatus. What is it? Is the one known as â??superarcuatusâ?

I think this is the so called 'Super arcuatus' and I consider it to be a species in its own right, but it will take a scientific work to actually separate them from the smaller fish we recognise as C. arcuatus.

Indeed, thanks for the pics, Jorge. In addition to noting the finer points (what a charming cory, even given the charm of cories in general!) I also note that they DO seem to be happy with a bare-bottomed tank.

Hi Ian,

is that to say that the size would be the differentiating factor between super arcuatus and arcuatus? I'm wondering if the stripe into the caudal fin is part of the differentiating characteristics as well? (what about the tinged dorsal spine?)

Where they come from?

I have had a few groups of Super arcuatus for a few years and have not bred them yet. They are impressive animals and have done well as show entrys. If anyone has any breeding tips It would be appreciated.

Another factor is that they appear to be exported from Colombia.

Wow, that gold stripe is beautiful! Are they regular size?

The largest Super arcuatus I have is over 3.5 inches in length.
