Hi all,
Now that my Leporacanthicus is healthy again and breathing normally two days now,i think its time to think of what other plecos i can put with them.Right now in my 100-40-56 tank are one Leporacanthicus L240 and one L241 along with 3 clown loach.The 3 clown loaches will be removed this Friday.I will buy another 2 L240 within this year's winter.
So,with this in mind which one is more suitable for my tank: L200 high fin or L239?
I would like to put two or three of one of them.
Also i would like to ask you some questions about them.
How large does L200 high fin grows?Does he grows to the same size with the normal L200 or he stays smaller?
Does L200 high fin comes from the same biotope with Leporacanthicus L240 or not?
Does L239 eat wood?Does he eat algae?

Just wanted to know something, your tank is a 200 liters tank right?

It might be ok for small to mid size species be certainly not for a group of Leporacanthicus, these are pretty territorial and grow rather big...
So either find a new way bigger home for these or get rid of them...
L239 is surely a better fit for your tank size...

Yes my tank is 200 liters
I know that Leporacanthicus are territorial and that sooner or later i should buy a bigger tank for them but right now they are only 4" and they dont fight with each other.When they get bigger and start to fight,i will move some of them to my other 200l tank until i find a place to put a 1000l tank

By the way,how large will the L240 grow?Some sites say 15cm while other say 25cm.

At the topic Silurus reminded me i read that L239 doesnt eat wood so i will not buy the L239 because i want a pleco that does eat wood.Also i think that i will not buy the L200 because apart from the wood,he eats Echinodorus plants
So,i am looking for suggestions for a pleco that stays small(less than 15cm)eats wood and not Echinodorus plants and can be bred relatively easily.

L240 should grow up to 25cm
A good genus that doesn't grow too big and and doesn't seem to touch plants (at least here at home) is the species from the Panaque dentex species group also know as Panaqolus...

My favorite small sized wood eater is Panaque albomaculatus. Mine is jet black with verrry orange spots and only about 3.5" - 4". Of course I very much like my 2 P. maccus as well!!

Because i want this tank to be an Orinoco biotope tank,the only choice i have from the Panaque dentex species is the Panaque maccus.But i have a Panaque maccus in my other tank.
Is there any other pleco that eats wood and not Echinodorus plants?

Pseudolithoxus are really nice fish but also seems to be a bit more fragils,
They are omnivourous, eating pellets tablets, insect larvae and vegetables food as well...

They might not support the concurences with the Leporacanthicus...

I think that if you provide enough vegetables food such as peas, zuccini, tablets with spirulina, they should be alright and won't touch your plants but you never know....

Since they are Aufwuchs grazer and they will search for it on basically all places in your tank, the risk that while searching for it they might harm your Echinodorus is rather high...

I never kept this species myself, so I can't really give you a good feedback on it...

So,i decided to buy a pleco that grows to about the same size with my Leporacanthicus and is a slow grower,a Panaque L190.
But i am having compatibility problems with him and my Leporacanthicus.See Leporacanthicus biting my small L190?
