How important is the strong current to fishes which come from that biotope to start to breed?

I´m setting somekind of a congo biotope. There will be among some tetras two synodontis species groups. S. brichardi and S. nigriventris"zebra kutu" both likes different kind of current. I always try to set up a as good as possible living area to fishes so it would be possible ( at least in theory) to breed.S. brichardi needs high oxygen levels and current but nigriventris doesen`t like as much current. If i can offer high oxygen levels without strong current could that be the missing trigger?

Many fishes living in areas of strong current actually breed in the backwater areas. I suspect a current can be dispensed with.
