Has these been imported anywhere else than USA?

Yes, this "Golden Double Whammy" (so-called by the vendor) is Synodontis rufigiensis. In his Import News of March 2002, Erwin Schraml reported on it (and its sister species, Synodontis maculipinna) being imported by Marc Danhieux (Mal-Ta-Vi, Hohenahr/Erda)). There was a time two years ago when I saw quite a few rufigiensis in the NYC area, but I have not seen them recently.

Unfortunately, S. rufigiensis gets moderately large. I saw some specimens that were easily over 20 cm.

I saw both of these fish at one LFS about 2 years ago. I really liked them. They were selling for $100 ea. Have not seen them since.

I recall I saw a big specimen of S. rufigiensis being sold without an ID for $30 at a well-known Manhattan fish store (NWA) in 2002. Had it been smaller, I'd have bought it. I thought I'd be nice and write the correct name of the fish down for them, but no one was interested.

I think that I have seen one of these in the chicago area labeled "Yellow Riverine Synodontis". It was very large for a synodontis and ran around $100 also. I'm fairly new to the synodontis so I might very well be wrong....

Breeding?

I have 3 of these beauties. Any advice on successful breeding? Thank you.
