reverse osmosis

in a attempt to breed some plecos (L260, clown, L042, BN). i'm thinking about purchasing a RO. just wondering what spec to look for, when i buy one. also how to you guys still your RO up (storage tank, facuet & etc.)

The type of membrane you use depends on your water supply. CTA or TFC. One is recommended for Ground water, the other is recommended for a municiple supply. I believe it is TFC for Ground water supplies but don't quote me! Check with your vendor prior to purchase or do a search for say Kent Marine or some other brand of RO unit.
I've found a 20gpd bare bones unit provides more than enough RO, and is a good deal at ~$100 retail, I've since added a cheap inline sediment filter. I'd recommend this as an add on, it helps the life of the membranes alot! But buy the sediment filter from a Home Improvement store, not from the LFS, they are allot cheaper at Home Depot!
I know 20 GPD doesn't sound like alot but I already have soft water and only use it to cut the hardness on a few tanks and only then not all the time (seasonal changes). I run mine into a 55 gallon drum as a stock tank.

i got mine on ebay for £100. it's made by "aqua-safe systems" i think they're from canada. 80 gpd i think.
i've attached the inlet tube to a 6 inch section of copper pipe with a valve at one end and a thread at the other so it attaches to the shower hose when i need it. it's not permenantly plumbed in, which is handy if you are renting your house (and a lot easier).
the harder your water the slower it will produce, so get a high gdp one if your water is very hard.
