Odontodes

I need to know what odontodes excactly are. if anyone can explain fully what they are and provide a picture showing a Plec clearly with and clearly without odontodes I would be very grateful

Odontodes are the hairy bristle like projections that are indicative of male sexual characteristics in some genera of Loricariids. Such as on the body in this Peckoltia (male on top)....

On the rostrum (nose)in this Farlowella.....

To confuse you there are always exceptions. They are not present in all genera, and can be sported by females in some species.

OK, well I was wondering as I am trying to sex some Queen Arabesques and thats a great help! Thanks
