I have what looks to be a Synodontis schoutedeni, or one that looks closely like it. I've had him/her for over a year but tonight I think I heard him talk. It was kind of like a muffled squeaking sound. I was unaware they could talk. Can they or am I misidentifying the originator of the noise???

All synos can stridulate ("talk"). See
this post.

add Mochokiella to that list; they can and do sound like bumblebees whenever they're upset about something.
unlike many Syno's they also produce sounds while being under water; you don't have to net them to get squeakings.
In that, they remind me of Auchenipterids; a particular talkative family.
I have no clue if Chiloglanis stridulates; mine never lasted long enough....
