White Patches on Syno multipunctatus

I have some Synodontis multipunctatus that seem to have developed patches of white on their skin. Not cottony or elevated in any way - just looks like their skin has turned white in circular patches. Looks a bit like the white spots you get on your shoes from walking in the salted snow in winter. My first thought was that they were burns from the heater in the quarantine tank - they all would huddle behind the heater, which has been on a lot with the cold weather. And maybe that's all it is, but I'm not sure. Here is a pic. Any ideas what this is?

You my be right about the heater causing those abrasions however I would like to know your water parameters to determine the true cause.

It's a quarantine tank, receiving large daily water changes, so ammonia/nitrite/nitrate aren't issues.

If the heater is the culprit put some plastic grating in front of the heater and see if the multipunctatus improve.

OK, thanks... But from looking at it, it does look like it could be a burn? Doesn't look like any kind of infection or parasite to you does it?
